My dad's family were multi-generation Florida "crackers" who farmed the land and lived hard-working, humble lives. Many lived in modest "shotgun" shacks with wide verandas or porches that provided shade for their windows and walls. This print depicts an old home set far back in the woods to capitalize on privacy and shade. Shotgun shacks got their name from their linear construction: a bullet shot through the front door could exit the back door without hitting anything.
John McLean's art is inspired by the inimitable Florida Everglades. Each print requires many hours to produce. John enjoys the versatility and efficiency of a digital canvas, and the way that computer-based drawing tools yield painterly results that mimic traditional formats like watercolors, oils and pastels. His prints are quickly gaining popularity due to their unique style and bold use of color.
